Logista Inaugurates the New Transit Point in Cagliari
The Company continues to invest in its capillary presence in Italy, considering environment, community and business in a vision of mutual development
Cagliari, 9 October 2023
Logista Italia inaugurates in Cagliari its new Transit Point, a modern facility with a total area of 8,500 square metres, equipped to supply smoking and inhalation products, as well as convenience products such as giftware, lighters, food & beverage and stationery, to around 600 retailers in central-southern Sardinia. Located in Elmas at Via Emilio Segrè 2, the new TP is the largest on the island, with a covered area of 2,600 square metres including, in addition to the Cash & Carry, offices and a modern warehouse.
Equipped with ample parking for customers and employees, loading areas for trucks and vans, the TP has four charging stations for electric vehicles of 7kw each, green areas designed to support biodiversity, and energy efficiency and autonomy systems, including a photovoltaic system installed on the roof. Built according to stringent sustainability requirements, the complex is one of 53 industrial sites in Italy - and the only one in Sardinia - certified BREEAM 'Very Good' (a certification system promoted and managed by the Building Research Establishment in London, which since 1990 has been classifying and certifying the environmental sustainability of buildings with a significant focus on social issues as well) and awarded high marks for structure resilience, energy saving and water consumption control.
The renovation of the company's Transit Points is a tangible expression of Logista's capillarity throughout the country. Through investments and specialised solutions adapted to different sectors, it enables faster and more sustainable market access for stakeholders, with benefits for the entire supply chain.
Logista has adopted a sustainability-oriented strategy that permeates all its activities: from the use of renewable energy sources in 99% of its operating sites, to the recycling and reuse of the cardboard boxes where goods are delivered every day, to the establishment of RECYCLE-CIG, the certified collection circuit for exhausted electronic cigarettes, on the basis of a Programme Agreement with with Ministero dell’Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica.
Stefano Lilli, Operations Director at Logista Italia, said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony: "This site represents the increasingly strong relationship with our commercial partners, in particular with the more than 600 resellers who can meet their needs here in a timely manner, with positive effects for their business, the distribution system and the tax authorities. Furthermore, the new Transit Point in Cagliari fully expresses Logista's evolution in terms of diversification and sustainability. In this context, one of our most recent projects is RECYCLE-CIG, which involves the creation of a collection network for used electronic cigarettes in order to send them to treatment and recycling plants. This is a further step towards a circular economy model that favours the saving of raw materials, with environmental and economic benefits for the whole community”.
Salvatore Deidda MP, President of the Chamber of Deputies Transport Commitee, said: "Logistics is fundamental to reduce distances and build a real territorial continuity between central and peripheral areas. Logista Italia is one of those companies that is doing this in the most effective way, addressing national and European issues, without ideological preclusions. Even from an environmental point of view, initiatives such as the delivery boxes recovery or the recycling of used electronic cigarettes are being implemented by actively involving all players in the supply chain. Which vehicles will be used in the future? Electricity is becoming a reality, but at the same time new modern, sustainable and efficient means are being studied. Thanks to Logista for this new investment in Sardinia”.
Maria Laura Orrù, Mayor of Elmas, commented: “We are very happy to host such an important reality for the entire Island in Elmas. The strategic location of our municipality, close to an infrastructure such as the airport, and Logista's characteristics - widespread presence in the area and attention to sustainability - are key elements for the expansion of commercial systems in Sardinia”.
